A Method for Evaluating Minimum Free Chernov Distance of Trellis-Codes for Discrete Memoryless Channel

چکیده
In this paper, we present a method for evaluating the minimum free Chernov distance of trellis-codes for a discrete memoryless channels(DMC). In order to design an e cient trellis-code for the DMC, we need to evaluate the minimum free Chernov distance of the target code. However, the lack of the additive property of the Chernov distance prevents a conventional branch-and-bound search for evaluating the minimum distance. To overcome the di culty, we present a lower bound on the Chernov distance with an additive property. The lower bound plays a key role in the minimum distance evaluation algorithm presented here. By using the proposed algorithm, we have derived the minimum free Chernov distance of some binary linear convolutional codes over Z-channel. key words: Chernov distance, discrete memoryless channel, trellis-code, minimum free distance

A Class of Trellis-Codes for Partial Response Channel
We present a new class of trellis-codes for partial-response channel. Our code con guration is based on the coded 1 D scheme due to Wolf and Ungerboeck. However, no precoder between a convolutional encoder and the partialresponse channel is used. A new lower bound on the minimum free squared Euclidean distance of channel code is shown. The bound is available for any PR channel with a nite respo...
متن کاملPerformance bound and trellis-code design criterion for discrete memoryless channels and finite-delay symbol-by-symbol decoding
A new tight analytical upper bound is presented for the performance of finite-delay symbol-by-symbol (SBS) Abend–Fritchman-like decoding of trellis-encoded data crossing arbitrary (eventually time-varying) discrete memoryless channels (DMC’s). On the basis of this bound, a related criterion for the optimal design of trellis codes with SBS decoding is then proposed. It gives rise to an effective...

The boundaries between block and convolutional codes have become diffused after recent advances in the understanding of the trellis structure of block codes and the tail-biting structure of some convolutional codes. Therefore, decoding algorithms traditionally proposed for decoding convolutional codes have been applied for decoding certain classes of block codes. This paper presents the decodin...
متن کاملWeighted Space Time Trellis Code for Slow Nakagami Fading Channel
It has been well known that the suitable criteria for Space time trellis codes (STTC) designed over slow Nakagami fading channel for product of rank and number of receiver antennas ) are maximization of minimum rank and maximize the minimum product of nonzero eigenvalues for rank and determinant criteria. But for large product i.e. for ), the design of codes with minimum error probability and m...
متن کاملEllipsoidal lists and maximum-likelihood decoding
We study an interrelation between the coverings generated by linear ( )–codes and complexity of their maximum-likelihood (ML) decoding. First, discrete ellipsoids in the Hamming spaces are introduced. These ellipsoids represent the sets of most probable error patterns that need to be tested in soft-decision ML decoding. We show that long linear ( )-codes surrounded by ellipsoids of exponential ...
